by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is participating in “Bach in the Subways,” an international project featuring free performances of Johann Sebastian Bach pieces on Saturday, March 21, at Morris Library.

In honor of Bach’s 330th birthday, musicians from about 130 cities in 40 countries will be performing free, public concerts of classical music.

The Bach in the Subways at Morris Library is from 2:30 to 5 p.m., and the event is open to the public. Musicians will perform in locations throughout the library -- the first floor rotunda and collaborative spaces, the third floor media space, and the lower level where the Friends of Morris Library are sponsoring a book sale. Individuals and ensembles will play a variety of classical Bach pieces and arrangements during the “flash mob-style” afternoon.

Eva Hagan, a master’s student in music, is organizing the event the library.
