Screenwriter Amanda Seales to discuss sexism

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Amanda Seales, comedian, screenwriter, host, disc jockey, producer and director, is coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Tuesday, March 24.

The Student Programming Council Lectures and University Housing are presenting “Amanda Seales and the Sideye Seminar: Identifying and Defying Everyday Sexism,” from 5 to 7 p.m. at the SIU School of Law Hiram H. Lesar Building Auditorium.

A former MTV video jockey, she has appeared on VH1 and in written and performing forums around the country.  In a famous appearance on CNN, she challenged someone who defended catcalling and street harassment and she challenges people to identify and end sexism as it exists in the everyday world as she says this sexism marginalizes women and their voices.

The event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.  For more information, call 618/536-3393 or visit www.spc.rso.siu.edu
