Media Advisory – Head Start ‘Land of Smiles’
More than 100 children between the ages of three and five who are enrolled in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Head Start program will learn about taking care of their teeth during a visit from the “Land of Smiles” on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Children in the Carbondale Head Start Center will watch a performance from Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation’s “Land of Smiles” program. “Tooth Wizard” and his nemesis, “PlaqueMan,” will teach children the value of caring for their teeth, proper foods to eat, and emphasize the importance of visiting a dentist twice a year. The program has entertained more than 240,000 students at more than 700 Illinois schools in the last eight years.
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the event. The program is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Carbondale Head Start center, 1900 N. Illinois Ave. (U.S. Highway 51 North), just north of the Carbondale Industrial Park. For more information, contact Linda Flowers, interim director, Head Start, at 618/453-6448.
