Students can take advantage of new resource
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It’s a funny thing about opportunity -- it doesn’t always knock. Sometimes you have to go looking for it.
The University Honors Program and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale just made that easier for students to do. The two units are co-funding the Student Opportunity Center, a database of more than 10,000 conferences, journals, internships and scholarships. The site is at www.studentopportunitycenter.com/#/
Access to the site requires an SIU email. Students sign in and create an account. Searches are by major or geographic region.
“In order to take advantage of opportunities such as major-specific scholarships, conferences or publication opportunities, students have to know the opportunities are available,” Lori Merrill-Fink, director of the University Honors program, said.
The database is available to the entire SIU community. Access to the site is funded through Jan. 5, 2016.
