Donations sought for annual Morris Library book sale

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The annual Friends of Morris Library Book Sale at Southern Illinois University Carbondale takes place in March, but organizers are accepting donations of books now.

Books are being accepted at 710 Bookstore, Murdale True Value, Vogler Ford and the Furniture King. Donations can be made through March 10, 2015.  All subject areas are welcome, although they prefer not to receive textbooks. Donated materials need to be in good, saleable condition.

The sale is set for 10 a.m. to 3 pm., March 21, in the lower level of Morris Library. A special preview sale will take place from 4 to 8 p.m., March 20. There is a $10 admission charge only for the preview sale; the Saturday sale is free.

The sale will feature a large selection of books of all kinds, along with videocassettes, DVDs and some LPs.  The categories will include fiction, non-fiction, history, philosophy, biography, autobiography, criminology, nature, science, crafts and self-help books, cookbooks and children’s books.

Of particular interest will be books published by the Southern Illinois University Press as well as sought-after volumes focusing on Southern Illinois. The sale will also feature items from the collection of the late publishers Violet DeMars Trovillion and Hall W. Trovillion, spanning the period from about 1908 to about 1960.

Proceeds from the sale benefit Morris Library’s programs and activities.  For more information about the library or the sale, contact Kristine B. McGuire at kmcguire@lib.siu.edu or by calling 618/453-1633.
