Dogs to provide stress relief ahead of finals

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An event this week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will allow visitors a chance to relax, particularly students who are preparing for final exams.

Morris Library is hosting “Dawgs Meet Dogs” from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday, Dec. 4-5, and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday. The event will be on the lawn near the north entrance to the library or, in the first floor Browsing Room in case of inclement weather.

The service/therapy dogs are from Supporting Independence Through Teamwork (SIT) Services Dogs in Ava. The service dogs are highly trained for public situations.

A similar event at the library near the end of the spring semester drew more than 300 people.

For more information, contact Howard Carter, associate dean for support services at Morris Library, at 618/453-2522 or by email at hcarter@lib.siu.edu.
