Media Advisory – Research Symposium

The inaugural Applied Sciences and Arts Research Symposium, featuring presentations from faculty, research assistants and students, will take place at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Saturday, Nov. 22. 

Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to attend the symposium, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Center’s Missouri and Kaskaskia rooms. The symposium will also feature poster presentations. Acting Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan Ford, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate School Dean James E. Garvey and Dean Andy Ju An Wang will provide welcome messages at 9:30 a.m. A panel discussion with chairs and directors in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts regarding interdisciplinary collaborative research follows. The keynote speaker is Rodrigo Carramiñana, director of the Center for Undergraduate Research. 

Symposium presentations include “HIPPA Security Rule in Small Healthcare Facilities: A Theoretical Framework,” “Sustainable Transportation and Southern Illinois University” and “Neil Armstrong’s Impact on the Aviation Industry.”
