Southern Illinois University Arts and Cultural Events

This weekly email brings together all the arts and cultural events happening in a two-week period at SIU Carbondale. From music to art, film to dance, guest lectures to workshops and theater, you will find the information here. Also, event information is subject to change.

This is the last arts and cultural events email for the fall 2014 semester. We will resume in January.

SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Upcoming Events:

Art Over Easy 10, the art sale and gala supporting the School of Art and Design, is Dec. 5, 7-9:30 p.m. in the Surplus Gallery at The Glove Factory, 432 S. Washington Ave., Carbondale. The event is a juried art show, art auction and social event.

Admission is $30 and includes light food, wine and other beverages, with music by the Jose Guzman Trio. Guzman is a graduate student in the School of Music specializing in jazz and classical guitar.

This year’s juror is SIU alumna Debra Tayes, an associate curator of fine art for the Illinois State Museum and the Southern Illinois Art and Artisans Center.

The event is a major fundraiser for the School of Art and Design. Proceeds will help match two private grants for scholarships and creative research.

A silent auction runs from the beginning of the event to the beginning of the live auction. In addition, attendees can buy a plastic egg (representative of the icon of Art Over Easy) for an unknown prize inside. Some might simply make back their money, some might win local resort weekends, or services or goods. The element of the unknown, and the competitive bidding to buy, are part of the fun at Art Over Easy.
