Alumni Association’s Homecoming activities set
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The SIU Alumni Association is preparing for a number of activities and gatherings as Homecoming 2014 festivities approach.
The Association will host its traditional Homecoming Tailgate, starting at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, on Saluki Row, just before SIU takes on Indiana State. Live music from “The Natives,” face painting, giveaways from Liberty Mutual Insurance, as well as food and drink from 17th Street BBQ, Koerner Distributor and Rustle Hill Winery will all be available in the tailgate area. Alumni will also get the chance to reconnect with students and colleges at booths located around the tent.
Students will also get the chance to participate in the Association’s “Punt, Pass and Kick Contest.” Held during halftime of the game, this event is a student’s chance to win up to $500 in a textbook scholarship, courtesy of the Association and 710.
The Association will also be inducting members of the SIU Class of 1964 into the Half-Century Club during a reunion on Friday, Oct. 24. Activities for inductees will occur throughout the day, culminating in the Half-Century Banquet at 6:15 p.m. Friday in Student Center Ballroom D. Approximately 30 individuals will be inducted into the club.
Graduates of 1964 are not the only people getting a reunion for Homecoming. The Association’s Alumni Band Group will also host its 25th annual reunion, honoring those who were part of the Marching Salukis. The event will be from 7 to 10 p.m., Oct. 24, in the Student Center’s Renaissance Room.
