Media Advisory – Veteran Education Award
Reporters, photographers and camera crews are encouraged to attend a ceremony at 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where the university will receive recognition by the state of Illinois for its continuing efforts to enhance the educational experiences of student military veterans.
The university will receive the spring 2014 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Veteran Education. SIU Carbondale received the inaugural award in 2010 and is the first two-time award recipient. Among those attending will be SIU President Randy Dunn and Simon Wlodarski, chief of staff, Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
The ceremony will occur outside of the Traveling Vietnam Wall, south of Saluki Stadium.
