Alumni Association football tailgates set

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It’s time to tailgate with the Salukis!

Join the SIU Alumni Association on Saluki Row on the road and at home for tailgates during the 2014 football season. The Association will be hosting tailgates at three home games this fall, along with an event Sept. 20 at Purdue University.  Information and registration on the Purdue event will be available soon.

The 2014 tailgate schedule is as follows. All home tailgates start at 2:30 p.m.

  • Sept. 20 -- at Purdue University, time TBA.
  • Sept. 27 -- SIU vs. Western Illinois University (Family Weekend).
  • Oct. 4 -- SIU vs. University of South Dakota.
  • Oct. 25 -- SIU vs. Indiana State University (Homecoming).

Members and guests will enjoy food, drinks, entertainment, games, and items courtesy of the Association. Members should remember to bring their membership cards for quick access. Non-members can attend one home tailgate per season.

Association staff will also be on hand to sign up new members or help existing members renew their memberships.

SIU Head Football Coach Dale Lennon says he appreciates the continued support through the Association tailgates.

“I urge our fans to take advantage of the various tailgate opportunities hosted this year by the SIU Alumni Association.  It is a great way to get in the mood for a Saluki football game while you enjoy complimentary food and beverages, and often live music,” Lennon said. “The Purdue pregame tailgate will have a real Saluki flavor to it, as former SIU quarterback Paul McIntosh will be hosting the event as president of the Greater Indianapolis Chapter. I hope to see you there.”

SIU Alumni Association Executive Director Michelle Suarez said she appreciates the sponsors and volunteers who help make the events possible.

“The tailgates are a great family friendly event to enjoy on football Saturdays,” she said.  “We continue to try and make them better each year, and look forward to seeing alumni and friends at these events.”
