Housing prepares for students; volunteers welcome
University Housing is busily preparing to welcome on-campus residents during residence halls move-in next week. More than 1,000 new students expect to move in on Thursday, Aug. 14, with an additional 1,000 new students on Friday, Aug. 15. University Housing will also welcome approximately 1,200 returning students moving in on Saturday, Aug. 16.
University Housing has more than 400 volunteers registered to help with the move in, but is still accepting additional volunteers. If interested, volunteers can complete the online volunteer registration form here.
This year University Housing is above its traditional capacity, meaning some students will move into temporary “overassigned housing” in the residence halls. University Housing will relocate students into their permanent assignments for the academic year as space becomes available throughout the fall semester. Information regarding overassigned housing is available here.
There is also a change with the “free” Welcome Lunches this year. In order to ensure adequate seating for residents and their families, the lunches are free only to students moving into the residence halls and their families (family members will need to be accompanied by their resident) and to our volunteers (a complimentary meal ticket will be provided for volunteers upon check-in on site). Individuals who are not registered volunteers may dine by purchasing a guest meal ticket at the dining hall entrance. The cost is $9.25 plus tax.
Move-in information, including schedules and tips, is available here. In addition, a “Move-In FAQs” used as a resource by volunteers, is attached here.
