‘Southern Adventure’ camp slots available

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A few spots remain for the Southern Adventures Day Camp at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center. 

The five-day camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning Monday, July 21. Youths entering grades 7-10 this fall will be exploring the region with visits to natural areas including Giant City State Park, the Little Grand Canyon, Garden of the Gods, the Panther Den and Balk Knob wilderness areas and other locales.  Participants will learn the basics of camping, hiking and surviving in the outdoors. 

Campers will also experience Touch of Nature and what the facility has to offer as they canoe, rock climb, swim, hike and participate in the high ropes course, the zip line and team building experiences.   

Parents may drop campers off at Touch of Nature or take advantage of free shuttle transportation from the SIU Arena.  Shuttle pickup is at 8 a.m. and drop-off is at 4:30 p.m.
