SIU to host annual TV News Camp
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- High school students have the opportunity this summer to learn about broadcast journalism and hone their skills during the eighth annual TV News Camp at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Slots are still available for the camp, which is July 13-18 and hosted by the Department of Radio, Television, and Digital Media.
The registration fee is $95 before July 1 and $120 after that. Registration is available online at dce.siu.edu under TV News Camp in the academic camp section. Information is also available by phone at 618/536-7751. News camp expenses are covered in part through a grant from the Illinois Broadcasters Foundation with support from the Illinois Broadcasters Association.
Students will learn every facet of a newsgathering operation, including broadcast writing, producing, performance, video journalism, editing and field reporting. Students will cover a real news story, conduct interviews, operate cameras and microphones, and then write the story and edit the video and sound.
The camp is limited to 15 participants. The registration fee includes lodging, all meals and materials. Housing is in Mae Smith Hall, an air conditioned, supervised residence hall.
