CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is the recipient of the 2014 Educational Partnership Award from Kaskaskia College.

Articulation agreements between the university and Kaskaskia College, in Centralia, allow students in several programs at the college to earn an associate degree and transfer to SIU.

Noting the long relationship between the university and Kaskaskia College, Chancellor Rita Cheng said she was honored SIU received the Educational Partnership Award.

“We appreciate the leadership and collaborative spirit from Kaskaskia College. Our institutions share goals of improving the lives of students and the communities we serve,” Cheng said.  “This award is emblematic of the university’s commitment to ensuring that students achieve their academic and professional goals.”

SIU has articulation agreements in business, accounting, industrial technologies, network administration and web development and a general associate degree agreement.  SIU and Kaskaskia College earlier this year signed an agreement that will help students working on an associate degree in engineering transfer those credits to SIU and the university’s College of Engineering.  That agreement applies to five areas of engineering study – civil, computer, electrical, mechanical and mining engineering.

The university also has a Service Center at the college to assist students with completing applications and learning more about academic opportunities at SIU.
