School of Law to celebrate 40th anniversary

The SIU School of Law will celebrate its 40th anniversary Saturday, March 29, with a variety of events, including a retrospective discussion with faculty and alumni.

The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building formal lounge.  More than 3,800 students have graduated from the law since the law school’s first class started in fall 1973.

In addition to the retrospective discussion, Barbara Lesar, widow of the late Hiram Lesar, law school founding dean, will receive the School of Law Founder’s Medal.  The Founder’s Medal is the highest honor awarded by the SIU School of Law.

There will also be a silent auction of items donated by members and friends of the law school’s legal community.  Tickets for the anniversary celebration are $40 apiece and registrations are still being accepted.  Online registration is available or by phone through the SIU Foundation at 618/453-4900.
