Media Availability -- Doris Kearns Goodwin
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to attend a media availability with acclaimed historian and author Doris Kearns Goodwin at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, March 20. The event will take place in the Provost’s reception area, which is on the first floor of Anthony Hall on the SIU Carbondale campus.
Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, will launch the SIU Distinguished Speaker Series at 7:30 that evening in Shryock Auditorium. Her presentation will be based on her best-selling history of America’s 16th president, “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.” The book served as the basis for the movie “Lincoln.”
In addition to her books, Goodwin has been reporting on politics and baseball for more than two decades. She appears regularly on network television programs and was an on-air consultant for PBS documentaries on Lyndon B. Johnson, the Kennedy family, Franklin Roosevelt and Ken Burns’ “The History of Baseball.” Her most recent book is “The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism.”
The SIU Distinguished Speaker Series is designed to bring influential speakers to campus twice a year to discuss ideas and issues of significance.
