Career fairs set to assist students, alumni

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Career Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting two career fairs next week to assist both current students and alumni.

The “Explore Your Career Fair” from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, is for students who need to know more about major courses of study. Representatives of every college on campus will be present to answer career-based questions about the more than 200 majors available at SIU.

Career Services is particularly encouraging exploratory students -- those who have not yet declared a major -- as well as students considering a change in majors, to attend.  Students currently or recently enrolled in University College are also encouraged to attend.

The annual spring university-wide career fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, in the SIU Student Center ballrooms.  This fair is not just for graduating seniors, but alumni are also welcome to attend.

Students who want to gauge the career market, want to make contacts before they graduate, and those who want advice on what to do or not do in charting their career path during their last year in college will also find this career fair a valuable resource.

Job seekers should bring multiple copies of their resumes and any other pertinent credentials, and should dress professionally and appropriately.  They should also be prepared for job interviews that day.

Participants can expect to find representatives from nearly 100 different businesses and graduate schools.  A full list of participating employers is available at careerservices.siu.edu/
