‘Hope For The Warriors’ to hold inaugural SIU run
Faculty and staff are encouraged to join the “Hope For The Warriors” inaugural 5K run and 1 mile run/walk on March 22.
The race is dedicated to service members wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, their families and the families of fallen soldiers. The funds raised will support “Hope for the Warriors” programs throughout the country.
Last fall, the university announced its partnership with the national non-profit organization, to enhance educational support services for post-9/11 student veterans. SIU is providing office space, marking the first time “Hope For The Warriors” will have a presence on a university campus to assist those veterans and their families.
The event begins at the old beach house off of Douglas Drive and will finish at the boat house pavilion. Organizers encourage online registration prior to the event.
Same-day registration begins at 6 a.m. Opening ceremonies start at 7:45 a.m. that will honor local wounded veterans and families of the fallen, and will provide a time to remember those who have given themselves in the line of duty.
The 5K run will begin at 8 a.m. and the 1 mile run/walk will start right after the 5K begins. Closing ceremonies and awards are at 9 a.m.
More information is available here. The leader of the group should create the group and once finished share the link with the rest of the group members. The group with the highest participation and the group that raises the most money will be recognized.
