Search for missing student continues
The Carbondale Police Department and SIU Department of Public Safety continue to seek information regarding the disappearance of SIU student Pravin M. Varughese, who was last seen in the 600 block of West College Street at about 11 p.m. Feb. 12. Anyone with information is asked to call the "Crimestoppers" line at 618-549-COPS (2677).
Varughese is a sophomore from Morton Grove, Ill., majoring in criminology and criminal justice. He has been enrolled at SIU since Fall 2012.
In a message to the campus community, Chancellor Rita Cheng encouraged anyone with information to contact the police.
“You may also show your support by joining a candlelight vigil organized by Pravin’s friends,” she said. “And you can join me in keeping Pravin and his family in your thoughts and prayers. We all hope for a positive outcome."
The vigil takes place at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in Rinella Field by Brush Towers in the large field next to the softball field. Participants should meet there at 8:30 p.m.
The SIU counseling center is open to students who would like to talk with someone about their feelings related to Pravin’s disappearance. For a confidential appointment, please call (618) 453-5371.
