Media Advisory – Special Deer Hunt
Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center is partnering with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to host an archery deer hunt for people with disabilities Friday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 1.
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the hunt at Touch of Nature, located about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road. Organizers anticipate about 35 people with varying disabilities will participate, each following state and federal hunting guidelines. Every hunter will have a partner to assist with whatever needs they may have.
Event organizers say they are unaware of any other archery deer hunt camps for individuals with disabilities. As deer are typically on the move during the early morning and late afternoon hours, hunters will likely be in the woods during those times but available to talk with media in late morning and early afternoon at the base camp. The hunting weekend runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.
