Asner-Self receives counselor educator honors
Kimberly Asner-Self, associate professor and coordinator of the Counselor Education Doctoral Program is the winner of the 2012-2013 Outstanding Professional Teaching Award from the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
Asner-Self received the accolade at the recent biennial conference in Denver, Colo. The award honors a faculty member for excellence in teaching in a counseling, counselor education or counseling supervision program within the North Central Region.
The region is a component of the national Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and consists of 13 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Asner-Self has worked at SIU in the College of Education and Human Services since 1999.
Her work and her research have often focused on different cultures and individuals affected by traumatic events including war and sexual assault. She is a nationally certified counselor and an Illinois licensed clinical professional counselor.
