Lecture Series focuses on neuroinflammation

Dr. Gary Wenk, professor of psychology, neuroscience, molecular virology, immunology and medical genetics at The Ohio State University and Medical Center will speak on “Calming the Neuroinferno with Diet and Drugs” at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. The goal of Dr. Wenk’s laboratory is to understand the role of chronic neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative conditions (such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer's disease) in order to design specific treatments to target them. His studies have identified many age-, region- and gender-dependent influences of chronic neuroinflammation upon cellular and cognitive processes. He will discuss the therapeutic potential of restoring normal glutamatergic function by drugs and dietary manipulations.
