Campus Safety Alert
On Oct. 21, 2013, at around 10:30 p.m., a battery occurred on the sidewalk east of Pierce Hall, 1305 Point Drive. The victim was walking through the area when the suspect, described as a male, approximately 6’3”, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and dark tennis shoes, grabbed the victim’s shirt and tried to pull her toward him. The victim was able to escape from the suspect. The SIU Department of Public Safety is actively investigating this case.
If anyone has any information about this crime or has witnessed other crimes on campus, please call the Southern Illinois University Police at 618/453-3771. Students and staff are reminded, as a general safety rule, to be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially at night. At night it is best to walk in groups, utilize the Brightway Path, or make use of the University’s Night Safety Transit by calling 618/453-2212.
