Abdul-Musawwir chosen as featured guest artist
Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, an associate professor in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will join a select group of artists participating in a fine art show this week in New York City.
Abdul-Musawwir is a featured guest artist in “Black Art in America” at Harlem’s Faison Firehouse Theatre. The event runs Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 3-6, as a fine art show and sale featuring works by African-American master artists.
Abdul-Musawwir recently was the featured artist for the 2013 African Festival of the Arts in Chicago, for which he created a painting expressing the theme of the event.
The fine art show is a social network connecting worldwide enthusiasts of art and culture pertaining to works by black artists. Gallery owners, private collectors and artists use the network to promote black artists, and to educate the public about art as cultural expression and financial investment.
