by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Internationally recognized concert organist Jonathan Biggers will visit Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Shryock Auditorium next week for the 21st concert in the Marianne Webb and David N. Bateman Distinguished Organ Recital Series.

The free performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Biggers is visiting from Binghamton University/State University of New York, where he holds the Edwin A. Link Endowed Professorship in Organ and Harpsichord. He has presented hundreds of concerts in settings throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Biggers’ program will include selections of Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn. Those who arrive early will have the opportunity to hear Biggers and Lynn Trapp, the series’ principal artistic director, discuss organ music and the selected programming.

SIU Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng and Tom Cheng will host a reception immediately following the performance.

Biggers is a frequent featured guest on National Public Radio’s “Pipedreams” organ performance program.
