Firearms Notice
Notice to students, employees and all other persons entering the property of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Although the Illinois legislature recently passed legislation permitting the carrying of concealed firearms under certain conditions, the law is not yet implemented and no concealed carry permits have been issued. THE CARRYING, STORAGE, OR POSSESSION OF FIREARMS -- CONCEALED OR OTHERWISE -- ON THE CAMPUS OR OTHER PROPERTY OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY CARBONDALE REMAINS STRICTLY PROHIBITED EXCEPT AS PERMITTED IN WRITING BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR SIU CARBONDALE. Updates will be provided as the concealed carry law is implemented and in the event the University implements any policies pursuant to the new law.
