Media Advisory – Soul violinist Lee England Jr.
Lee England Jr., noted violinist and Southern Illinois University Carbondale music graduate, will bring his captivating performances to local schools on Friday, May 10.
England, who earned three degrees while at SIU Carbondale, will perform for school children at Lewis and Thomas elementary schools in Carbondale, and Tri-C Elementary School in Carterville. England will tour with the John Thomas String Program, a group of violin students from Thomas Elementary School in Carbondale.
Performance times are:
9 a.m. -- Lewis School, 801 S. Lewis Lane, Carbondale -- Lewis string students joining in concert.
10:30 a.m. -- Tri-C Elementary School, 1405 W. Grand Ave. – violinist from Tri-C joining in the concert.
1:30 p.m. -- Thomas School, 1025 N. Wall St., Carbondale -- all Thomas School students joining in concert.
Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the performances. School officials do ask that media be unobtrusive and refrain from filming or photographing children who do not have signed media release forms.
While at SIU Carbondale, England assisted Paula Melton, an assistant instructor in the School of Music, with establishing the John Thomas String Program. On Thursday, May 9, England visited Meridian school in Mounds to perform there with string students in concert.
England will also be in concert at 6 p.m., Friday, May 10, at The View Church, 1201 S. Giant City Road, Carbondale.
