Media Advisory -- Region 8 Science Fair
Reporters, photographers, and news crews are welcome to cover the annual Illinois Junior Academy of Science Region 8 Science Fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Thursday, March 21, in the SIU Student Center Ballrooms.
Organizers expect approximately 400 Southern Illinois students in 7th-to-12th grade will participate, and more than 150 SIU Carbondale faculty and graduate students to serve as judges during the event. Judging is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and public viewing of the projects is from 1 to 4 p.m.
Students were able to choose their projects from 18 different categories covering a wide range of science-related topics. Approximately 60 of these projects will be eligible for state-level competition in May.
In addition to individual awards, SIU Carbondale academic departments and University units sponsor student and school awards totaling several thousand dollars in prize money. The awards ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. in the SIU Student Center Auditorium.
