‘Red Extravaganza’ fashion showcase is Feb. 23

by Jance Staten

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Students in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Fashion Design and Merchandising program will showcase their works Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Carbondale Civic Center.

The students will participate in the 9th annual Red Extravaganza presented by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.   The extravaganza will also include interpretive dance, singing, a guest speaker, dinner and dancing.

Noting that February is the American Heart Association’s American Heart Month, the Red Extravaganza aims to support and promote both the arts and heart disease awareness. Proceeds from the Red Extravaganza will benefit the American Heart Association and the sorority’s Alumni Chapter Annual Scholarship Fund, which provides a scholarship to a graduating high school student.

This year’s event is also a celebration of the sorority’s 100th year of sisterhood, service and scholarship.

Tickets for the Red Extravaganza are available for $20 in advance from any chapter member, or $25 at the event.
