Flags lowered to U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye
Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of the late U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawaii.
Flags are to be flown at half-staff immediately until the day of Inouye’s interment.
Inouye died Dec. 17, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center of respiratory complications. He was 88 years old, and at the time, was president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate.
Inouye represented Hawaii in Congress from the time it became a state in 1959 until his death. He served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and in 1962, was elected U.S. senator for the first of what would be nine terms.
