‘Art Over Easy 8’ is Nov. 30 at Surplus Gallery

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Part art show, part art sale and all gala, “Art Over Easy 8: Art Auction and Gala,” will transform Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Surplus Gallery on Nov. 30.

The event, from 7-9:30 p.m., is the major fundraiser for the University’s School of Art and Design and a highlight of the local art scene.  Admission is $30.

The auction features two components.  A live auction provides excitement and entertainment for patrons, while a silent auction is just right for those who prefer their art acquisitions on the quiet side.

The artwork for sale is also part of a juried exhibition, and includes art from (and award categories for) faculty, students, alumni and community members. This year’s juror is Buzz Spector, Dean of the College and Graduate School of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Crown Valley Winery and Crown Valley Brewing of St. Genevieve, Mo. sponsor this year’s event.  Local businesses also show their support for the arts with the new “Crack the Egg” game, which will give participants the chance to buy a surprise prize.

Patrons will be able to enjoy food, wine and other beverages, and live music in an atmosphere filled with art and art lovers.

Tickets are available at the door, or online at southernticketsonline.com/ Tickets are available at the Shryock Auditorium and McLeod Theater box offices, and also at Walker’s Bluff General Store near Carterville, Rustle Hill Winery near Cobden, and Black Diamond Harley-Davidson in Marion.  Tickets are also available by phone at 618/453-6000.
