Jazz ensemble to come to Altgeld Hall
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A popular music ensemble is making its way to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a free concert later this month.
North Carolina-based Like Mind Trio will perform at Altgeld Hall, room 112, at 8 p.m. Nov. 28. The trio, comprised of Matthew Richmond, Mike Holstein, and Justin Watt, will showcase their style that blends jazz with elements of chamber music and rock.
According to their webpage biography, “the group presents opportunities for each member to introduce musical ideas and compositions that change over time and constantly evolve. The group aesthetic is intelligent, yet accessible and always exciting.”
Ron Coulter, who is hosting the event, said the unique group works well with the audience. The band will present an educational clinic from noon to 1:50 p.m, also in Altgeld Hall, room 112.
“They were invited to SIU because of the high quality of their performance abilities, willingness to work with students in workshops, and the fact they compose their own original music,” Coulter said.
