Media Advisory – Geothermal Energy Project
Southern Illinois University Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng and other University officials will meet with representatives of the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives and Egyptian Electric Cooperative at 2:45 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the Chancellor's office in Anthony Hall.
The energy representatives will bring a check to help fund The Stone Center's geothermal heating and cooling system. The project upgrades the existing dual duct air system in the 12,900-square-foot building, which is used for administrative functions and houses the SIU President's office.
The funds come from the GeoAlliance program, a collaborative effort of Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation and the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives
This is one of the University's three geothermal energy projects. The McLafferty Annex storage facility on McLafferty Road and the recently completed Transportation Education Center at Southern Illinois Airport also utilize geothermal energy.
Experts will be available to explain the geothermal applications at SIU Carbondale, the foundation's ongoing program to encourage geothermal systems, and possible home applications for the technology.
Reporters, photographers and video crews are welcome to attend the presentation.
