Discussion to focus on service-learning courses

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Two Southern Illinois University Carbondale faculty members will be part of a discussion this week that looks at exemplary service-learning courses at the University.

The Center for Service Learning and Volunteerism is hosting a brown bag discussion from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8. The event will be in the Student Center's Mississippi Room.

Jon D. Davey, professor and distinguished faculty member in the School of Architecture, and Sherri M. Lukes, an associate professor in the Dental Hygiene Program, will give brief presentations on their service-learning courses. The focus will be on course design and student learning outcomes. The session will also include an open discussion on service-learning strategies and techniques.

The session is primarily for faculty members, but staff and graduate students who are currently involved with service-learning courses or projects are welcome to attend.

Admission is free, but pre-registration by Monday, Nov. 5 is required. To register, please email service.learning@siu.edu
