Youth Showcase registration under way

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The 2012 Carbondale Youth Showcase is set for 6:11-9 p.m. on Nov. 14, in the Student Center Ballrooms.

SIU Carbondale's Speaking and Teaching registered student organization and other RSOs on campus put together the youth talent showcase and charity event, which puts the spotlight on local children. The showcase is both a performance vehicle that highlights the talents and abilities of children in the Carbondale area and also a school supply collection event.

Children in kindergarten through sixth grade from local schools, bands, choirs, dance teams, churches, and youth programs will perform and show off their talents. There is no admission fee, but organizers are asking those who attend to bring assorted school supplies. Those supplies will be distributed to local schools and after-school programs, in addition to schools in Bangladesh and South Africa.

Participants interested in registering for the showcase should contact Byron Madison at 618/305-1892 or by email at bmad072@siu.edu, or Ryan Reed at 773/575-3917 or by email at ryreed@siu.edu by Nov. 1.
