‘Transfer Day’ at Rend Lake College on Wednesday

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Rend Lake College students can learn more about everything Southern Illinois University Carbondale has to offer and get a jump on the admissions process later this week.

A "Transfer Days" event is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the private dining area of the college's student center.  The event is one of several held this fall at community colleges around the state. Transfer Day events simplify the process for students wanting to transfer to SIU Carbondale by bringing representatives from financial aid, housing, and undergraduate admissions right to the community college.

Students can apply for admission at the event, with the step-by-step help of admissions counselors and without the standard $30 application fee. Students who want to participate in the on-site admissions review should bring their official transcripts from all colleges attended.

For more information on the event at Rend Lake College, contact Sherri Sulser at ssulser@siu.edu or at 618/713-6071.

Students in five local community colleges participated in Transfer Days activities earlier this fall. On Sept. 20, approximately 50 students took advantage of the event at John A. Logan in Carterville, with more than 20 students submitting on-site applications. SIU Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng visited during the event.

Kaskaskia College, Southeastern Illinois College, Southwestern Illinois College, and Shawnee Community College also hosted Transfer Days events.

Another Transfer Days event will be from noon to 2 p.m., Oct. 31, at Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel. For more information, contact Tosha Baker at tcalvin@siu.edu or 618/713-3828.
