DiLalla named to associate provost position

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- David DiLalla has been appointed associate provost for academic administration at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Chancellor Rita Cheng announced the appointment today (Oct. 10).

DiLalla was selected for the half-time appointment through an internal search.  In his new role, DiLalla will advise the Provost on academic hiring policy, advise central administration on compliance and application of faculty contracts, and assist the Provost on matters related to promotion and tenure and leaves of absence, including sabbaticals.  He also will serve as a resource person for department chairs, deans, and other administrators with respect to academic administration, including operating paper issues.

DiLalla joined the faculty as an assistant professor of psychology in 1990, earning promotion to associate professor in 1996.  He served as interim psychology department chair from 2004 to 2005, and as interim associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts from 2006 to 2008.  He has served as associate dean of the college since 2008, and will continue in that role on a 50 percent appointment.
