Army ROTC will host 5K run/walk, 10K run Oct. 27

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale's U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is hosting its fourth annual 5K run/walk and 10K run around campus on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The event begins at 9 a.m., and is open to all ages. The early registration fee through Oct. 12, is $18, with $25 late and race day fee. Each entrant will receive a goody bag, and moisture wicking T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The run/walk registration is also available at the event.

Packet pickup will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Oct. 27, at Kesnar Hall, 1225 Douglas Drive. The event begins and finishes at Kesnar Hall.

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the event. SIU Carbondale U.S. Army ROTC staff members and participating ROTC cadets will be available for interviews beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27. Contact Capt. Matthew T. Race proceeds will go to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna and the ROTC cadet registered student organization to help increase training opportunities for future U.S. Army officers now attending SIU Carbondale.

The top three overall male and female run participants in each event, along with the top three male and female participants in each age group, will receive awards.

Event organizers welcome participants with leashed dogs to also participate.
