Dawgs Night Out is Aug. 17 at Student Center

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Dawgs Nite Out is both a popular tradition and a big "welcome back" for students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The fall 2012 event is set for 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Aug. 17, at the Student Center. All University students are welcome with a valid University ID card and nearly everything is free. Dawgs Nite Out features games, food and activities.

New events for the fall event include live band karaoke, skating in the ballroom and the chance to create "green screen" flip books. Participants will also enjoy playing Bingo for prizes, laser tag, the photo booth, getting henna tattoos and caricatures, and creating their own street sign, custom dog tags and wax hands. There will be tarot card and psychic readers for fun and the movie "Thor" shows at 9:30 p.m.

Many of the Student Center's businesses and restaurants will offer discount pricing and specials, including $1 games at Bowling and Billiards, $1 Starbucks pastries, $1.99 regular smoothie at Saluki Sweets, $1 off a small soda at McCafe and a buy-one, get one free Big Mac sale at McDonald's.

Top off the fun evening with a free late-night breakfast of pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy.
