Ten Questions With ... Becky Reed
Job on campus and department you work in: Academic Advisor, College of Science
How long at SIU Carbondale: 18 years as an employee, four years as a student.
Hometown: Midland, Mich.
When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? A forest ranger working as a fire lookout in a tower.
If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? I would not want another. I have a great job and I really enjoy working with students.
What is one random fact about you? I won a 10-speed bicycle in a pinball tournament when I was in college.
What three things are at the top of your bucket list? Visit New Zealand, ride a zipline through a tropical forest canopy, take a Belgium beer tour.
What is your favorite way to spend a day? Putzing in my garden.
If you could take a photograph of your life, what would the picture be? A winding path through a jumbled garden.
What is the best advice you ever received? When you are stressed, ask yourself if this will still matter in 10 years.
Favorite TV show (still running or ended): Moonlighting
What is your pet peeve? People who don’t put their weights back in the gym.
What would you like your gravestone to say about you? I’m hoping that after I am cremated, my ashes will be returned to nature -- no need for a gravestone.
