CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Five students earned newly created Saluki Stay Scholarships to continue their studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce and the Saluki Pride Committee created the scholarship in 2012 to aid with retention of students at SIU Carbondale.  They award the scholarship to juniors or seniors who might not otherwise be able to remain at SIU Carbondale.

The five winners this year are:

• Mariah Brandon -- Chicago

• Sarah Renfro -- Carbondale

The scholarship award package is worth approximately $1,000, and includes a book scholarship, housing allowance, gift cards to grocery stores, Laundromat services, a free meal per week at participating chamber member restaurants, and a cash award for other expenses.

Eligible applicants are SIU Carbondale juniors or seniors, maintaining a grade point average of 2.8 or better, and employed by a Carbondale Chamber of Commerce member business.
