University to host summer tennis camps
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Division of Continuing Education, in conjunction with Intercollegiate Athletics, is offering two tennis camps this summer for youths entering grades three through 12.
Camp participants will receive training in mental toughness and visualization techniques along with footwork and conditioning specialized for tennis. Other camp features include a video analysis of each participant’s strokes, match analysis and strategy as well as single and doubles match play. All participants will get a written evaluation at the completion of camp and there will be awards for “Camper of the Day” and at the conclusion of camp. Resident campers will also enjoy evening activities with camp instructors.
Tennis Camp I will be June 10-13. There are residential and commuter options for Tennis Camp I. The commuter camp is available to participants in grades three to 12 and the residential camp is available for students in grades seven to 12. Tennis Camp II is set for June 25-28. This commuter-only camp is for participants in grades three to 12 and includes six hours of on-court tennis instruction daily. Campers should bring their own racket, hat or visor, sunscreen, water bottle or cooler, shoes for tennis play and lunch.
All camp registration fees include a Saluki tennis T-shirt and limited accident medical coverage. All camps take place at the SIU Carbondale tennis courts.
