Ten Questions With ... Bethany Wendler
Job on campus and department you work in: Coordinator for Student Involvement and Leadership Development, a unit of Student Life and Intercultural Relations
How long at SIU Carbondale: Since August 2011
Hometown: St. Louis
When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an artist.
If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? Currently, that would be chef. I love to cook, and even more so, love to cook for others.
What is one random fact about you? I have completed five marathons since 2006.
What three things are at the top of your bucket list? Anonymously donate a large sum of money to charity, run in the Boston Marathon and watch “The Bucket List” -- then I can cross “Watch the Bucket List” off of my bucket list.
What is your favorite way to spend a day? Early morning run, visit the farmers’ market, spending time with my husband.
What is the best advice you ever received? As you get older, life seems to speed up faster every year. When you are a kid the summer lasts forever, but now it seems to last only one day, someday it will feel like a second. So, take notice of the small things as much as you can.
If you could meet an historical person, who would it be and what would you talk about? Madeline Albright. I would love to talk with her about her experiences in the White House and what her struggles were as a strong, successful woman in a male-dominated profession.
Favorite TV show (still running or ended) Golden Girls.
What is your pet peeve? Those who interrupt someone in the middle of a conversation.
What would you like your gravestone to say about you? She was a good person who enjoyed life.
