Summer Piano Camp set for July 29-Aug. 3

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Summer Piano Camp at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is serious fun.

The camp, which runs July 29-Aug. 3, is for serious piano students going into grade 7 all the way to collegiate students in late intermediate to advanced level piano.

A highlight of this camp is the Summer Piano Competition, which is open to all camp participants.  The top three receive cash prizes, scholarships to the SIU Carbondale School of Music, and performance honors during the Showcase Recital.  The top winner is invited to a solo performance at next year’s piano camp.

Piano faculty for the camp are members of the SIU Carbondale School of Music, including Cully Bell, who teaches piano literature and piano teaching methods; Yuko Kato, teaching four-hand ensemble; Junghwa Lee, performance class; and Paul Transue, who teaches accompanying and collaborative piano skills.

This year, award-winning guest pianist Anthony Padilla joins the faculty members to teach a masterclass during the camp.  Padilla is associate professor of piano at Lawrence Conservatory.
