Ten Questions With ... Vicki Kreher

Job on campus and department you work in: Senior lecturer in the School of Journalism -- advertising

How long at SIU Carbondale: Five-and-one-half years.

Hometown:  St. Louis

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up?  I wanted to drive a road grader when I was very young, but as I grew older, I vacillated between apparel design and geology.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why?  Well, I truly love media, but I also have a keen interest in spiders, so something to do with araneology.

What is one random fact about you?  I was once a shoe model.

What three things are at the top of your bucket list?  See Tierra del Fuego.  Study spiders.  Teach my cat to speak English.

What is your favorite way to spend a day? Exploring natural areas.

If you could take a photograph of your life, what would the picture be? A butterfly visiting flowers on the bank of a rushing mountain stream.

What is the best advice you ever received?  To live in the present moment.

If you could meet an historical person, who would it be and what would you talk about?  St. Francis of Assisi.  We would talk about love of nature and animals.

Favorite TV show (still running or ended)  “On Shaky Ground,” or “Keeping Up Appearances.”

What would you like your gravestone to say about you?  I would prefer not to have a marker, or a concrete vault or all of the nonsense that is required these days.  I think that is all such a waste of resources.  I will be gone; save the granite for someone’s counter top.
