Flags lowered to honor first responder
Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a firefighter killed in a motorcycle-car collision last week in northern Illinois.
Flags are to be flown at half-staff until sunset, Wednesday, April 18, in honor of Capt. John C. Winkelman of the Huntley Fire Protection District. Reports indicate Winkelman, 54, of Marengo, died April 12 when he was thrown from his Harley-Davidson motorcycle while traveling along Route 176 in Crystal Lake.
Winkelman was a 24-year veteran with the Huntley department after beginning his career with the Marengo Rescue Squad, according to reports.
