When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? Geologist
If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? I wouldn’t… Serving, mentoring and teaching SIU Carbondale students and doing research in higher education is what I love to do.
What is one random fact about you? I do not have a middle name… Any suggestions?
What is your favorite way to spend a day? Hiking and camping along Lusk Creek with my wife and kids.
What is the best advice you ever received? “Eat the elephant one bite at a time.”
What would you like your gravestone to say about you? “He cared about people and it showed.”
What three things are at the top of your bucket list?
1. Growing older with my beautiful wife
2. Seeing my children get married
3. Meet my grandchildren
If you could meet an historical person, who would it be and what would you talk about? Isaac Newton, and we would discuss gravity, time and the origin of the universe.
Favorite TV show (still running or ended)? It’s a toss-up: NOVA and Gold Rush
