CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Katharine Johnson Suski is the permanent director of undergraduate admissions at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, effective April 1.

“Katharine has exactly the kind of knowledge and experience we need in this critical position,” Chancellor Rita Cheng said.  “Our focus on enrollment requires the strong leadership that Katharine provides.”

Suski, an SIU Carbondale alumna for both her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees, has been part of the University’s undergraduate admissions office since 1999 when she became an admissions coordinator.  She was campus visit coordinator from 2002 to 2007, when she became associate director of undergraduate admissions.  More recently, Suski has been interim director of undergraduate admissions since August 2010.  Her responsibilities in that position include managing the non-salary budget, leading a staff of more than 40 people, developing long-term strategies for enrollment planning, implementing new technologies to automate the admissions process, and to play an active role in student recruitment at various open houses and collegiate expos as well as representing the University at professional gatherings.

"I'm honored to lead the admissions team at my alma mater,” she said. “I am personally invested in the success of SIU, and look forward to further implementing student-focused, outcomes-based initiatives within the admissions office.  As a second-generation alumna, SIU is in my blood.  SIU has provided endless opportunity to my family and me.  Supportive faculty, outstanding academic programs and lifelong connections are just a few of the benefits SIU students enjoy.  It is a privilege to work with such an outstanding admissions team and to share my passion for SIU with prospective students."
