Students can apply to be Leadership Educators

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Student Involvement and Leadership Development office at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is launching a new program, Leadership Educators, for student leaders interested in serving the SIU Carbondale community.

Leadership Educators will create and implement their own workshops and training programs during the 2012-2013 academic year and present them upon request.  They will also assist with orientation and Week of Welcome activities and the annual RSO awards at the end of the year.  These leaders in training will develop and present workshops and training tools on a variety of topics including diversity, finding your passion, public speaking, Robert’s Rules/parliamentary procedure, staying balanced, sustainability, programming, StrengthsQuest and more.

This program allows the leaders to hone their public speaking and communication skills along with their marketing, event planning, interpersonal and mentoring abilities as they provide valuable service and training to others.  Program leaders say they are looking for highly motivated, involved, responsible and determined students to become part of the new program.

Salukis may apply online at https://orgsync.com/18656/forms/show/46063 until Friday, April 6.  Applicants will participate in interviews the week of April 9 and those selected will get notification on April 13.  The new Leadership Educators will also receive recognition during the annual RSO Awards Ceremony on May 2.
